The biggest beneficiaries of this project will be you, the members of Chesterfield United.  You are an integral part of this soccer movement within the local community.  With your help, you will be able to give your children a quality environment to experience and enjoy the most popular sport in the world.

Due to the limited amount of time in the day (there’s only 24 hours!), we are asking our biggest and most valuable resource, the Chesterfield United families, to email us with leads, contact persons of businesses, etc that may be interested in helping develop these projects.

Supplemental Tryouts 

Representing Virgina Wesleyan College will be Jeff Bowers.  Coach Bowers has been at the helm of the Women’s Marlins for 12 seasons and has racked up a very impressive winning record.  The two-time South Region Coach of the Year also brings in professional coaching experience after spending a year in charge of the Hampton Roads Piranha’s Women’s Team in 2004. Representing Christopher Newport University will be Ruth Keegan.  A native of Dublin, Ireland, Coach Keegan brings a fantastic amount of experience in the women’s game.  Keegan graduated from Methodist College in 1995 and was an All-American and Dixie Conference Player of the Year while with the Monarchs. Her playing experience also includes five years with the Republic of Ireland national team.  Keegan’s coaching experience has come at several different levels. Finally, representing Lenoir-Rhyne University will be Luke Duffy.  An England native, Duffy brings in a fantastic playing experience as a college All American and also played in the 2009 NCAA Division II Championship Game.  Duffy also has professional experience from the youth ranks of Doncaster Rovers FC.

The Chesterfield United FC College Camp is aimed at players aged 14-18 who have ambitions to play at the college level.  All coaches coming in will provide high level sessions, giving every player an insight of what to expect at the next level.  The camp will also provide and incredible level of college exposure for the players and coaches in attendance.

After the success of last years camp, Chesterfield United will be hosting the second annual Norwich City CSF "Pro Camp". 

THE CAMP

The Norwich City CSF ’Pro Camp’ is the only camp this summer in Richmond that allows young soccer players the chance to interact with a top Premier League Academy coach and also gives young soccer enthusiast the chance to be coached by a top former Norwich City professional that has played at the highest level in England. The camp will consist of 5 days of training the Norwich City way. Players will be challenged to train like a professional over the course of the week under the Norwich City CSF Player Development guidelines that Dan Goffin has implemented at the club, This will consist of the 6 key areas of player development that will help create and shape a rounded soccer player.

Each day there will be prizes given away in the Coaches Challenges and Skill of the Day competitions. Coaches Challenges include the famous Crossbar challenge among many other favorites.

The biggest prize of all is the chance to go to England. See the prize below.

The camp was a massive success last year and we look forward to building on that this year. The camp curriculum will be posted by the end of May.

THE COACHES

Travelling accross the pond to coach the camp will be Adrian Forbes and Dan Goffin.

Adrian Forbes is a well know professional player in England and brings an incredible amount of pedigree to the camp.  Has played over 375 professional games, recorded over 40 goals in 15 years for 6 different clubs in England, 3 of which have played in the EPL over the last 2 seasons. Forbes played under a list of prestigious coaches, including current EPL manager Martin O’Niel. 

Dan Goffin returns for his second year at the camp, bringing a wealth of experience in youth soccer. As Football Development Officer at Norwich City CSF, Dan oversees the entire player development program and coaches several teams. Dan is also head coach of the Norwich City FC U10 Academy side that compete in the english EPL Academy division (the highest level for this age). 

THE PRIZE *

This year, Norwich City CSF will be selecting SIX of our players to "live the dream" in 2013!

Last year 4 Chesterfield United players were selected to go to England and "live the dream", training and playing with Norwich City Youth teams.  The players also had the opportunity to play at various world class training facilities as well as having access to Norwich City’s Stadium, Carrow Road, from the field, locker room, to the press conference area and the prestigious boot room!  To top it off, our players recieved tickets to see Norwich City vs Manchester City in a very important Premier League game featuring not only Norwich’s stars, but the likes of Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and the rest of Manchester City’s star studded team. This year SIX PLAYERS WILL BE SELECTED*.

The biggest positive for the club this year is that 8 players from our ASL teams will be going on the play at the next level. This is a massive improvement compared to years past for the club.

Dale Parker will be taking over the position as the Director of Coaching on the girl’s side and is looking to bring a new emphasis and energy in the 2012/13 season.  Parker enjoyed some success coaching our U15 girls last year and will be looking to push all of our age groups to that high standard.  “I have been fortunate enough to see the wonderful talent we have on the girl’s side here at CUFC.  As the new girl’s director, I will be looking to provide new opportunities for our girls and a fresh environment for the players to come into.  As a club, we are all on board with raising the bar on the girl’s side.”

One of the first moves for the Fall, is the coaching placement of directors on the girl’s side.  9 of our 12 teams will be coached by one of CUFC’s directors, giving the club a better opportunity to provide and oversee the growth of the program.

On the Recreation side, we will be holding an All Girls All Star Game in the Fall and Spring.  Our Rec All Star games will provide the players with a great opportunity to showcase their talent, in recognition of their performances during the season.  We will also be providing several all girls clinics throughout the 2012/13 season to provide more coaching and training experience in an “All Girls” environment.

Girl’s soccer at Chesterfield United is coming off an incredible season in 2011/12. 

In the fall, our U15’s gained state-wide recognition after advancing to the Elite 8 of the Virginia State Cup, defeating the #2 ranked team in the first round, #5 in the second round before narrowly falling to the #1 team in the USA in the quarter-finals.  The U15’s added to this by securing the Richmond Cup and VSL Division 1 Championship as well as picking up the clubs first ever ASL points on the girls side of the program. 

Our 18’s dispatched of the #2 seed in the 1^st round of their State Cup campaign to also earn a spot in the Elite 8, before falling to the eventual winners.  The girls finished off their careers with CUFC in style, representing our club admirably in the ASL with some strong performances. The U18s also won the VSL soccer league in the fall.

Our U11’s also had a fantastic fall season and are carrying that success into the spring.  Between the two teams at our U11 age group, they picked up 3 tournament wins and numerous final appearances, as well as being a dominant force in the ADSL.  A bright future looks to be in store for this special group.

Also our U13s are currently top the VSL soccer league this Spring with some very impressive results under new Head Coach Kali Van Covern. In the fall coach Kali’s U16s also had an impressive run in the league finishing runners up in the VSL.

One of the shining stars of our U18 Girls has earned a college soccer scholarship at Hawaii Pacific.  Laura’s pace and ever dangerous presence in front of goal looks to give the Sea Warriors an edge in the PacWest Conference of NCAA Division II.  We hope Laura can lead the way as we look send a number of our girls into college soccer over the next few years!

Chesterfield United has built a reputation over the past 18 months for developing players of all ages and all levels. The success of our coaching staff has resulted in increased numbers of teams, increased numbers of league and tournament success’s and an increased number of players moving on to the collegiate level. We are still at the beginning of our rise to excellence but the future is very bright and we are excited to see how far we can go.

We now have in place a full time staff that has broken boundaries for Chesterfield United by implementing new structures on the field and creating new cultures of it. Chesterfield United Director’s have also increased the number of programs in the club with extra emphasize on bridging the gap between Elite and Classic teams. The club has also created new relationships that have benefited players in the club including Norwich City and the Olympic Development Program, which have seen Chesterfield United send numerous players abroad this past season. With the new Academy structure in place for next season things look really good for Chesterfield United.

We provide a wide range of coaching expertise in our full-time and part-time coaching staff from USSF A qualified coaches, former college All-Americans, and former professional players. We also have coaches who are always willing to go the extra mile by helping the local community whether  by helping coach local Middle or High School teams or running UT2 community sessions for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Chesterfield United will be hosting their first ever 5K at the United Training Center in support of our chosen charity, Connor’s Hero’s.

The run will take place around the United Training Center facility, which has seen somewhat of a change over the last 12 months.  The facility has seen our fields become some of the best playing surfaces in the area, with a wonderful back drop of trees and a lake now in view.

Proceeds will go towards Connor’s Heroes and to the United Training Center as we look to create an even better facility over the next few years.

Minimum donation is $15.  Runner who raises the most money will receive a free summer camp of their choice!

About Connor’s Heroes

Connor’s Heroes are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization made up of volunteers, parents of children with cancer, and other caring individuals and companies who want to conquer childhood cancer through direct assistance, awareness, and research. We hope to help others be heroes in the lives of children with cancer and their families. Currently, we provide assistance to children and their families who are being treated for cancer in Richmond, Virginia at the Children’s Medical Center of VCU, including the ASK Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic and the VCU Massey Cancer Center Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.
